The Adolphus Hotel
Many celebrities have stayed the night at Dallas’s most haunted hotel alongside some of the city’s most evil residents. Their most notorious spirit is a jilted bride who hung herself on her wedding day and now finds no solace in death.
Grassy Knoll
The infamous Grassy Knoll, where a shot was heard during JFK’s assassination in 1963, is haunted by the spirits of three falsely accused and murdered African-Americans from the 1860s.
Majestic Theater
This beloved theatre from the 1920s is haunted by its former director, Karl Hoblitzelle. His old office is often much colder than the rest of the building, and he can be seen hovering above the balcony before quickly disappearing.
When Texas entered the Union in 1845, Dallas was a city shy of 150 people. But the road it took to get to the thriving metropolis you see today is lined with blood and destruction. Dallas, in the mid-19th century, earned its moniker “The City of Hate” through a series of violent outbursts against a growing post-civil war African-American population. The city would eventually hold the largest KKK membership in the nation, creating several extremely haunted locations in the wake of this unrelenting violence.
The city’s pension for violence increased, and the railroads brought more and more criminals, outlaws, and opportunists into the fold. Famous bank robber Clyde Barrow began his life of crime in Dallas. He would be far from the most famous criminal in the Big D. Lee Harvey Oswald forever changed history when he assumedly assassinated President John F. Kennedy. The infamous book depository where he took his first shot is said to be haunted by his ghost even to this day.
These events, plus the general chaos that stems from a city whose foundation is based on greed and violence, have created a ghostly wonderland in the heart of Texas. Let Dallas Terrors introduce you to the biggest hauntings in the Lonestar state.
Dallas takes up more land than most cities in Texas. That may be why so many of its buildings are filled with persistent spirits. The Hotel Lawerence, which has been the site of many suicides, is prone to reports of crying, footsteps, and shadow figures between midnight and 6 AM. Similarly, the 1861 Millermore Mansion has a spectral record of terrible shrieking that sends many running in fear.
Things are not much safer outside the hotels and homes. The Lady of the Lake is a ghost story involving a woman in a white dress who lost her life in a boating accident at White Rock Lake Park. Nearby, at Flag Pole Hill, a ghost soldier killed on duty searches for his killer.
Dallas is just one of those cities that people can’t get enough of. From The Real Housewives to the show Dallas, there are ... numerous shows based around this beautiful city. The shows that are based on this city are great but they don’t really dig deep into the creation of it. Maybe those are the ... stories you want to tell. Maybe you’re ready to start that book or screenplay about the dark and tragic stories behind the heart of Dallas. This is a great place to start!
